Wardrobe Design Ideas for Bedrooms in Abu Dhabi and Dubai
Wardrobes are the carpentry job we are asked about most, and for good reason. A well-planned wardrobe makes a bedroom calmer and easier to live in, while a badly planned one wastes space for years. Here are the wardrobe design ideas that work best in Abu Dhabi and Dubai homes.
Start with how you store, not how it looks
Before choosing doors and colours, list what needs to go inside:
- Long dresses, abayas and kanduras need full-height hanging space.
- Shirts and jackets need double hanging rails to save space.
- Shoes, bags and folded clothes need shelves and drawers at the right height.
- Suitcases and seasonal items need high storage above the main wardrobe.
A good wardrobe design is built around this list. It is the step most off-the-shelf furniture skips.
Built-in and fitted wardrobes
A built-in wardrobe runs from floor to ceiling and wall to wall. In UAE apartments and villas with high ceilings, this gives you far more storage than a freestanding unit, and it removes the dusty gap above the wardrobe.
Fitted wardrobes are also the best way to deal with awkward spaces such as columns, sloped ceilings or alcoves beside windows.
Sliding vs hinged doors
- Sliding doors suit smaller bedrooms because they do not swing into the room. Choose quality rollers and soft-close tracks; cheap sliders are the most common wardrobe repair we see.
- Hinged doors let you see the whole wardrobe at once and work well in larger rooms.
- Handleless doors with push-to-open or recessed grips give a clean modern look.
Walk in closet ideas
If you have a spare room or a large master bedroom, a walk in closet is worth considering. Open shelving, drawers with dividers, a central island and good lighting turn a storage space into a dressing room. Even a narrow corridor between the bedroom and bathroom can become a compact walk-in.
Materials and finishes that last in the UAE
- Moisture-resistant boards are worth it, especially in bedrooms next to bathrooms.
- Matte lacquer and laminate finishes resist fingerprints and are easy to clean.
- Wood veneer gives warmth and pairs well with wall panelling and wooden flooring.
- LED strip lighting inside the wardrobe helps you find things and makes the space feel premium.
What happens on a site visit
When our carpenter visits, we measure the walls, check the floor and ceiling levels, look for AC ducts and sockets, and talk through how you store your clothes. You then get a design and a clear price before any work begins.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to make a built-in wardrobe?
It depends on size and finish. After measuring and approving the design, the units are built in our workshop and installed on site, usually in one or two days for a standard bedroom.
Can you repair my existing wardrobe instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. Broken sliding rollers, loose hinges, sagging shelves and damaged doors can usually be repaired or replaced.
Can a wardrobe go up to the ceiling?
Yes. Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes are the best use of space in UAE homes with high ceilings, and they stop dust collecting on top.
Do you install wardrobes in rented apartments?
Yes, but check with your landlord first. Freestanding fitted systems can be removed when you move.
